Hi kids.
Time for the weekly update.
I just returned from a funeral service for Sister Almina Call. Brother and Sister Call were an older couple in our ward (Christina's grandparents). She passed away last week from old age, essentially.
Bishop Chandler was out of town and asked me to set it up and to speak. The family asked that President Brent Richards speak. He used to be their bishop years ago. He was also the East Stake President for a long time and a Temple President and Sealer. His dad, by the way was Joel Richards, the man who gave me my Patriarchal Blessing a hundred years ago. Joel was the brother of LeGrand Richards, the Apostle. Anyway it was a very sweet meeting.
Here's the latest from Nurse-Central. Walker has been sick with the flu for 3-days. He's getting better now, but Thursday and Friday were fun (throwing up every half hour or so. ) The hospital said to just keep him hydrated. We did. Now I'm just trying to get him to eat solid food.
As for Mom. She's still recovering at KMC. The first few days there were very difficult for her.
She was very disoriented. The only things keeping her going were her pictures of her family and a quick visit from me each night. She made a friend though. A guy named Bobby. Don't know much about him, but he'd had some issues that kept him there for a few days. He said he'd taken the missionary lessons once upon a time and even visited Temple Square. So he took it upon himself to watch out for Mom and help her feel included by playing games and coloring with her, etc. The nurses and staff have been very helpful, keeping a watchful eye on her day and night. They're still trying to find the best balance of medications to give her. It may take a few days still.
Got the Monday e-mail from Mike: I'm posting it here:
"Dad,
Its been just about one week, but it seems like it has been longer. I found out that I'm still in Ohio. Apperently, I fell asleep on the drive here, and I got a little turned around. The town I'm in is called Gallipois, Ohio, It's right on the border with West Virginia. There is a town, right across the river, that is in our area, and we visit often, called Point Pleasant. There was a movie called the Mothman Prophecies, or something, that was based in Point Pleasant. I got a picture next to the Mothman statue in town.
Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about Mom, and Walker. I'm really worried about all you guys. My patriarchal blessing said that I would be able to go on a mission, when the demands of my family weren't so great. I wonder if I left too soon. Please know that I'm keeping all of you in my prayers, and that your faith is key to getting you through any troubles. God will not ask you to endure anything that you can not handle. I know how hard it has been for everyone there, and I imagine it will only get harder now that the kids are starting school again, but I would council you all to read the scriptures daily, by yourselves and as a family, and to have family and personal prayers.
One thing that we teach people here is that the family is the best place to teach, learn, and apply gospel principle, and the family can be a place of safety, peace, and joy. Never loose your faith, Dad, and always keep the commandments. By doing these things, you can never go wrong. No matter how bad it gets, we'll all be together, and happy, in the end.
I love you, Dad. And I love everyone else, too. Please wish Greg a happy birthday for me. It would be great if you could send me any email addresses for the rest of the family, so I can write them too. Anyway, I love you all, and everything will be alright.
Elder Young"
Got a pretty cool son there. I'm not too proud or anything.
Course, I'm proud of all my kids.
I love you guys lots. I miss you and your spirits.
Sister Gordon said she was going to bring Greg a Birthday Cake tonight. So far his present has been going back to school. Walker missed his first day cause he was too tired. James said he is planning to take Greg to Magic Mountain on Saturday for a little R&R.
Better go. Write if you get work.
Love,
Dad.

Wow that letter from mike gave me chills and made me cry. It's so amazing how close missionaries can get to the spirit even though they've only been out for a week. That just fascinates me. Thanks for posting that Dad. I really needed to hear those words from him.
